Phyllis Jean Rauchfuss Oliver, 87, died in Sterling, Colo., on Aug. 16, 2014.

She was born June 30, 1927, in Powell, to Eugene and Marvel Shaulis Rauchfuss, longtime Powell residents and bee-keepers.

Phyllis graduated from Powell High School in 1945. She attended Business College in Salt Lake City, and then continued her education in accounting at Denver University while working for an insurance company.

She married Paul T. Oliver on May 6, 1950. They lived in Denver, Byers and Eaton before moving to Sterling with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1968.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. Phyllis was a homemaker and had many hobbies including cake decorating, knitting, sewing, square dancing, swimming and making greeting cards. She enjoyed and maintained many life-long friendships through her love of visiting and writing and looked forward to seeing the mail arrive daily.  She loved playing cards and games and teaching her grandchildren her hobbies, visiting and traveling. After they retired, they spent winters in Arizona.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Charles Eugene “Gene” (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, Paul Thomas, Jr. “Tom” (Lainie Ring) of Phoenix, Marva Lee Miller (Randy) of Tucson and Annette Lucille Oliver of Windsor; five grandchildren, Brandon Miller, Jenna Gonzalez (Anthony), Ambrosia Tomaino, Ryan and Jason Oliver; and two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Hailey; her brother Ed Rauchfuss (Vera) and nieces Suzy, Judith and Jim and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved husband Paul T. Oliver.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life was held at the Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling on Aug. 27.

Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Children’s Hospital of Denver, Christ United Methodist Church of Sterling or Hospice of the Plains in Sterling.
