Charles B. ‘Chuck’ Cornett

(June 7, 1943 - July 5, 2014)

Charles Bruce “Chuck” Cornett, 71, of Worland died on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Washakie Medical Center in Worland.

Chuck was born on June 7, 1943, at Basin, a son of Charles Cone and Mel Messina (Durfey) Cornett. He was raised in Hyattville, where he attended grade school. He then attended Manderson-Hyattville High School, where he graduated in 1961. While in high school he was active in football and FFA.

He met the love of his life, Barbara A. Goodwin, and they were married on July 3, 1963, in Kilgore, Neb. Chuck always remembered her on her birthday and their anniversary with a card and flowers. He never forgot either date.

Following graduation he started a lifetime of working in agriculture. He worked for several area farms as a farmhand, and spent a great deal of the time with Bob Lass Farms. In 1986 he went to work as an oilfield roustabout, then went to work for Bob White Small Engine Repair Shop as a mechanic. In 1992 he went to work for Big Horn Co-op as a propane deliveryman until he retired. He then worked part-time locally as a farm hand, and tinkered in his garage at home.

He and his sons had been active in tractor pulling for many years, and loved building their own tractors with big block Chevy engines. He also loved to go fishing in his spare time.

Chuck was a member of the Worland Eagles Aerie No. 3096.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Jo Craft and Mollie Worm and brother Donald Cornett.

Chuck is survived by his wife Barbara A. Cornett of Worland; sons Jerry (Cami) Cornett of Greybull and Mike Cornett of Powell; sister Pati (Alan) McKim of Manderson; grandchildren Dani Berryman of Worland and Kyle Hoyt of Byron; and by his great-granddaughter Angela Rasmussen of Greybull. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at Veile Mortuary Chapel in Worland. Burial of the cremains will be at 11:45 a.m. at Mount View Cemetery in Basin, followed by a lunch at the Worland Eagles Club in Worland at 1 p.m. Funeral-goers are urged to use West River Road between Manderson and Worland due to the paving of U.S. Highway 20 south of Manderson.

Memorials may be made to the Chuck Cornett Memorial Fund in care of the Security State Bank, 320 North 10th, Worland, WY 82401 for a fund yet to be determined by the family.

Veile Mortuary of Worland is assisting the family with the arrangements.
