Dottie Turney of Powell died at the Powell Valley Care Center on June 22, 2014. She was 107 years old.

Dottie was born Dec. 19, 1906, in Humboldt County, Iowa, to Killian Cornelius Schnepf and Clara Belle Young. Her family later settled down in Colorado.

She married Donald Turney in 1929. They raised one daughter together and moved to Powell in the early 1930s.

She had a variety of jobs throughout her life, but she worked many years in the cafeteria for the Powell school district.

Dottie loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time camping, going for Sunday drives, visiting Yellowstone and enjoying the beauty of the Powell/Cody area.

She was active for most of her life and she loved summertime because she was able to spend most days outside mowing her lawn, tending her garden and beloved roses, hosting family barbecues, or simply sitting in her yard watching the squirrels and relaxing in the afternoon sun.

Dottie had a sharp sense of humor, an infectious smile and she brought a lot of joy to others. She had a warm, caring heart and she loved spending time with her family and taking care of her cats. Her hugs, twinkly eyes, and sweet nature will be missed by those who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Patricia Jenkins (Jon) of Virginia Beach, Va.; Penny Blake (Bill) of Cody; Paris Cunningham (Richard Stueven) of Omaha, Neb., and grandson-in-law Bill Hutzenbieler of Belfry, Mont.

Dottie is also survived by her great-grandchildren, John Hutzenbieler of Powell, Tori Hutzenbieler of Billings, Mont., Brandi Fischer of Bozeman, Mont., and Corey Blake of Cranford, N.J. She has several great-great-grandchildren: Doni Rae Lauk, Derek, Dylan and Dawson Hutzenbieler all of Powell; Destin and Ashton Christman of Billings, Mont., and Ellie and Jackson Fischer of Bozeman, Mont. She also has four great-great-great-grandchildren.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Donald Turney, daughter Doris Cunningham and granddaughter Pam Hutzenbieler.

Dottie’s family will hold a private memorial and celebration to honor her life. No public memorial will take place.

Donations can be made to the Park County Humane Society.
