Mark Alan Olmstead, 51, of Cody, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, due to a sudden illness.

Mark was born June 4, 1962, to Harvey and Phyllis Olmstead of Wichita, Kan.

Mark’s father died at a young age, and as the youngest of four boys, his older brothers became important father figures to him.

Mark worked at Electro-Mech as a parts distributor for more than 20 years. During this time he met and married Maria. From this union came his two wonderful children, Avery and Sierra.

After moving to Cody, Mark began working at West Park, where he became the materials supervisor. He considered his coworkers family.

In August 2012, Mark married the love of his life, Charisse, at Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone with his and her children standing with them.

Following a trip through Yellowstone in his 20s, Mark knew he wanted to live in the region and Cody in particular. Nearly 20 years later he did. He was a Florida sports fan, despite any rivalry with a certain Ohio State backer.

Mark, an outwardly quiet and gentle man, never had unkind words for anyone. He will be truly missed.

Mark was preceded in death by both his father and mother.

He is survived by his loving family: Dale Olmstead of Oklahoma, Marvin and Amy Olmstead of Oregon, Dana Olmstead of Missouri and his children whom he loved dearly, Avery and Sierra. His loving wife Charisse, and her sons, Duncan and Dale, also survive him.

Viewing will be at 3 p.m. Thursday June 5, at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riverside-Graham Cemetery. Afterwards, a carry-in lunch and celebration of life will be held at the Eagles.
