Dorothy “Dot” May Boettner, 98, of Cody, died Friday, Dec 20, 2013.
Dot was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Lancaster, Pa., the second child of Chester and Mabel Stauffer. She was married to Harry Cyril “Cy” Boettner for 51 years, and the couple made their home in York, Pa. They loved traveling and made many trips out West to visit.
After Cy’s death in 1991, Dot moved to Cody to be close to her brother and his wife, Jack and Lorraine Stauffer. She lived with them until his death in 2010, when she moved into assisted living.
Although Dot was legally blind, she loved traveling, the salt air at the beach, the smell of flowers and the sound of music boxes. Most of all, she loved being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Dot was able to share in the ministry almost every Wednesday until her death. She looked forward to the promise held in the Bible at Isaiah 35:5-6 where it says of a time coming when “the eyes of the blind will be opened, the ears of the deaf will be unstopped and the lame will leap about like the deer.”
Dot was able to enjoy a long, healthy life. She exercised daily, loved broccoli and blueberries, had a close circle of wonderful friends who took very good care of her taking her anywhere she needed or wanted to go, JoAnn, Cheryle, Dena and Caravenne. She always looked forward to the special treat, as most ladies do, of getting her hair done.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Robert and Jack Stauffer. Survivors include her sister Ruth Child of Norristown, Pa., sister-in-law M. Lorraine Stauffer of Cody, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service took place Dec 28 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2702 Cougar Ave. in Cody. Memorial donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ballard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
