Reel withdraws from council race

Posted

Don't vote for Shea Reel in the Powell City Council race this year; even though his name is on the ballot, Reel is no longer seeking the Ward 1 City Council seat in the primary election.Reel had filed for the position in May, but said last week that a new job position would make it difficult for him to meet council duties if he were elected this fall.

“The hours are such that I wouldn't be able to fulfill my position entirely,” Reel said.

Primary ballots already have been printed, so Reel's name will remain on the ballot in August.

Reel's new job is in Lovell, but he still plans to reside in Powell, he said. Though he won't pursue a four-year term this election season, Reel said he may seek public office in the future.

“I can't say at this point, but I want to stay connected with things that are happening,” Reel said.

He plans to continue serving on the Centennial Park Committee.

With Reel's exit, incumbent Councilman Steve Scott is the only one still in the Ward 1 race. Reel wishes him well.

“I'm all for Steve Scott, he seems like a good guy,” Reel said.

Scott was appointed to the position in May after Councilman Josh Shorb resigned. Shorb stepped down after he moved to a home outside Ward 1's boundaries.

The primary election is Aug. 17. Ward 2 candidates are incumbent John Wetzel and Mark Senn. Incumbent Rex Sanders, Myron Heny and Tim Sapp are vying for the Ward 3 seat.
