Will rebuild in PowellDespite the destructive fire that destroyed part of Treasure Valley Seed's Powell facilities during the long weekend, the company opened for business Tuesday morning.“Business isn't exactly as usual,” said manager Jamie Franko Tuesday morning, “but we're still loading trucks and still processing beans.

Despite the loss of the facilities, which stored a great deal of Treasure Valley's equipment and housed milling and bean processing operations as well as providing loading facilities and a staging area, the company will be able to serve growers adequately through the summer, according to Randy Mattson of Minneapolis, a partner in the company.

“We're set up for the growing season and will be fully ready to receive beans during harvest later this summer,” Mattson.

Mattson said nothing was salvageable from the burned facility, and the full extent of the damage has not been determined.

“We have no dollar value on the loss, and we probably never will,” Mattson said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and, according to Powell Fire Chief Joey Darrah, likely never will be determined due to the measures taken to fight the fire. Firemen had to remove debris in order to attack the fire, and it probably will be impossible to reconstruct the scene to determine a cause, Darrah said.

Mattson said he was scheduled to meet with investigators and insurance people on Wednesday, and he anticipates insurance issues will be settled quickly and the company can begin rebuilding.

Mattson emphasized that Treasure Valley will remain in the community.

“We're committed to staying here,” Mattson said. “We've had a bump in the road, but we'll get back on our legs and continue to serve this area. We will rebuild.”

Treasure Valley Seed is headquartered in the Boise, Idaho area. The company employs 25 to 30 people in Powell.
