Montana man sentenced for sex acts with Cody teenagers

A 32-year-old Montana man has been ordered to serve more than a decade in prison for having sex with a 16-year-old girl and also forcing an 18-year-old girl into having sex with him in Cody last year.

Levi M. Longmire — who’d reportedly provided both girls with alcohol — pleaded guilty to felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor (relating to the 16-year-old) and second-degree sexual assault (relating to the 18-year-old) at a District Court hearing last week.

Longmire accepted an 11- to 15-year prison sentence as part of a deal with the Park County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In exchange, he received assurances that he wouldn’t be charged with any federal crimes for his actions and a misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor was dismissed.

District Court Judge Steven Cranfill accepted the deal, saying he was doing so “primarily based upon the fact that the victims are in agreement with this recommendation.”

Court records say the acts took place in April 2015.

During that same time, Longmire had sex with another 18-year-old girl in Cody, authorities say. Court records say that girl told a Park County Sheriff’s Office investigator that Longmire had pushed her into having some of the sex, but she did not want to pursue any charges, said Deputy Park County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Blatt. An 18-year-old can legally consent to a sexual relationship.

Court records indicate Longmire met and had sex with that 18-year-old first, corresponding with her through the instant messaging application Kik and giving her a sex toy.

Longmire later contacted the second 18-year-old girl through Kik as well, asking if she’d used the sex toy he’d given to the other girl and saying “he would get the girls anything they wanted, including alcoholic beverages,” then-sheriff’s investigator Joe Torczon wrote of the girl’s account.

Longmire reportedly came to Cody a few days later and took all three girls to a fast food restaurant during their school lunch break. Longmire and the three girls — plus a teenage boy — then spent parts of the next two nights at one of Cody’s motels, in a room rented by Longmire, court records say.

The teenagers recalled getting drunk and described multiple sexual encounters in multiple locations over those days. The teens gave differing accounts about who slept with who and which acts were consensual. Longmire was interviewed by the FBI in a July 2015 interview in Laurel, Montana, and admitted having sex with all three girls, Torczon wrote. Longmire reportedly told the FBI agent he’d given the three girls hair dye and alcohol.

In court last week, Longmire specifically admitted he’d shown the second 18-year-old girl a gun he was carrying inside his coat while they were at the motel; Longmire testified he later took the girl to a dirt road — apparently off U.S. Highway 14-A toward Powell — and had sex with her.

The girl told police she had been forced into having sex and that afterwards, Longmire made her walk toward the Shoshone River, “at which point she thought Levi Longmire was going to murder her,” Torczon wrote.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted a day after the encounters, when the 16-year-old girl’s family took her to West Park Hospital’s emergency room to report she’d been sexually assaulted.

The Park County Attorney’s Office filed charges in late September 2015 and Longmire made his first court appearance that December. He immediately posted a $20,000 cash bond and has been free since then.

Longmire declined to make a statement in court last week. In addition to the prison time, he must pay $415 in routine court fees.
