Addition of new outside elevator to start soon
Rocky Mountain Manor has strong support in the community of Powell.
That support shows in contributions — nearly $225,000 — in response to a call for donations to assist the retirement home with badly needed capital repairs and additions.
The Rocky Mountain Manor board of directors this spring unveiled a program of significant capital projects, topped by the need for a new elevator to service the three-story building at 140 N. Cheyenne Street. The manor has 52 residents living in apartments on three floors.
The manor’s present elevator needs refurbishing at an estimated cost of $200,000.
“The problem is it’s going to take six to eight weeks to refurbish the elevator,” said manor board president Wes Metzler. “It will be out of use for that period of time.”
The solution is the addition of a new outside elevator on the north end of the building at a cost of $163,000. It will be connected to manor hallways by enclosed vestibules.
The really good news is that one donor has stepped up to pay for the entire new elevator, Metzler said.
In addition, 38 donors have presently contributed nearly another $62,000 to the manor’s capital construction needs. The overall project is estimated to cost $627,000, Metzler said.
Rocky Mountain Manor is applying for grant funds to complete the project funding under two different grant programs. Metzler said the show of community support makes the grant applications stronger.
“Many of the donors are people who have family members living there or who have had family members as manor residents in the past,” Metzler said.
A major feature of the capital upgrade at Rocky Mountain Manor is a new electric power generator estimated to cost $125,000. It will run the entire building, including the elevators, in the event of a power outage.
Other elements of the planned project include construction of the vestibules off the outside elevator, a parking lot east of the building and additional covered parking for residents.
Construction of the new outside elevator will begin soon.
