Damian Dicks named new Powell fire chief

Posted

The Powell Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief.

Damian Dicks assumed leadership of the department on Jan. 12. He replaces Joey Darrah, who was the fire chief for nine years and will remain on as a firefighter.

“He did a good job,” Dicks said. “It was time. It was just time.”

Dicks, 41, is a computer services coordinator at Northwest College. He lives in rural Powell and has been with the department for 12 years, the last three as assistant chief. His brother Dustin is also a Powell firefighter.

Dicks said “recruitment and retention” will be his major goals as chief. The department has 32 firefighters and he wants to maintain that number.

Firefighters selected their officers at the end of 2014. Delray Jones will serve as assistant chief, Willie Onstine is the captain, Devin Self the first lieutenant and Jason Fields the second lieutenant.

The department’s secretary will be Jason Wardell, Nate Mainwaring will be treasurer, Stacy Carter will be chaplain and Gerald “Bear” May will be training officer.

Fire Chief Dicks thanked the district for its support. Park County Fire Protection District No. 1 Board of Directors Secretary/Treasurer Roger Easum said the Powell Fire Department is the best fire department around.
