It was hard to see the pictures of the house and barn that we grew up in and played in as a child. Our parents provided us with wonderful memories growing up out in the country.
This home and barn wer just to the west of our home. I stood on the back porch and wept to see it engulfed in flames. I understand and appreciate the need to clear away what is no longer in use and we certainly want our firfighters to be trained and ready when their services are needed for real.
And yet, as one who grew up in a post-Civil War house in north Georgia that my parents restored and having restored an old home here in Powell, it is sad to the old passing.
Mary - as I stood on my porch, I comforted myself with the knowledge that the home had been a happy haven for someone once. I'm glad that was so.
