Written by Powell Tribune    Friday, November 27, 2009

Katie Thiel, a member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams at Montana State University-Billings, was named a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s academic all-conference team. Thiel served as a team captain for the Yellowjacket harriers this past fall.

Thiel presently carries a 3.86 grade point average and is majoring in nursing at MSU-Billings. She is a 2007 graduate of Powell High School, where she was active in the cross country, girls’ basketball and track teams.

Thiel was one of three women’s cross country members among the 50 women honored with GNAC academic all-conference honors. To be selected, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of competition at their university. They must also carry a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4-point scale.
